CHOGM 2013 Sri Lanka  Opening Ceremony will be held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre from 10.15 am to 11.15 a.m. with much fanfare and the participation of nearly 25 heads of state and delegations from 51 commonwealth countries.

Foreign dignitaries including Guest of Honour Prince Charlese and Duchess of Cornwall Camilla Parker Bowles will represent Queen Elizabeth at the CHOGM.

British Prime Minister David Cameron, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key and the leaders of founding countries of the Commonwealth arrived yesterday for the CHOGM 2013.

Prince Charles, Host Country Head of State President Rajapaksa, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma are billed to deliver the speeches.

After the inauguration ceremony the Heads of State with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will pose for the official photograph before retreating to the Executive Sessions at the BMICH.

The reception by Dr. Sharma to the heads of state and the Price of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall is scheduled to start at 1.30 p.m. at the banquet hall of the BMICH.

The dinner hosted by Prince Charles to CHOGM delegates and their spouses will start at 7.30 p.m. after the news conference given by President Rajapaksa.

The first day’s proceedings of the three-day event will be concluded with the Commonwealth Symphony Orchestra Concert at the Nelum Pokuna theatre.
